The Timeout policy, which is a medical staff policy, has been updated and can be accessed via Summa@Work. MedicalStaff – All Documents – Policy 3.12
The elements of the timeout and debrief were also reviewed by several committees and a visual checklist was created and posted in the rooms for team reference (see attachment).
A discussion regarding the reason for a delay if first case does not start on time or turnover time goals were not met was added to the topics of discussion during the timeout. The goal is to improve the accuracy of the delay reason documentation, team member awareness and accountability. As an example, the staff have been instructed to state “we were 5 minutes late into the room, what was the reason for the delay.
